It is with great sorrow that the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Zdeněk “Denis” Kučera at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, on Friday February 23rd, 2024 at 1:55 am in his 91st year of life.

Devoted husband for over 67 years to Eva Kučera. Dear older brother of Věra (Karel), Marie (Luboš), Ludmila (Milan), and Alenka. Loving father to Eva (Johann), and Lee (Claire).

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Lara (Stéphane), Mark (Mira), and Evan, and great-grandchildren, Liam, Erik, Karl, Alek, Carmelle, and Atla.

Zdeněk comes from a long line of engineers and received his Master‘s Degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Brno in Czech Republic. When living in Czech Republic he worked as an agricultural engineer and in his spare time he enjoyed looking after his family wineyard. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 with his wife and two young children. He made Sudbury, Ontario his home and with his determined attitude learned English and embraced his new country and culture. He held various jobs with the City of Sudbury, including working as a surveyor, landscape architect and supervisor of Sudbury District Housing until 1998.

Zdeněk was a proud, honest family man with a strong will and determination in all that he did. In his youth he enjoyed the snow, and the sport of skiing. As an adult he enjoyed gardening, politics, world news, the economy, travelling to warm destinations and tasting exotic foods. He was a practical family man who believed in working hard and being a good example to his children.

In the last few years Zdeněk has been a devoted caretaker for his wife Eva, supporting her in daily activities of living so they could continue to live together in their home. He has left a hole in our hearts, and we will miss him dearly.

Our grief over losing him is infinite.
