September 25th, 1924 – February 27th, 2024

Vera passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice with her daughter Nellie, by her side. She leaves behind her daughter Nellie Lanteigne, and her son Gerard Lanteigne, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her husband Neil predeceased her on August 18th, 1985.

Facing adversity in her early years, she was a strong, resilient and kind-hearted person. Following World War II, her family seeking a peaceful home, moved to Canada from Europe. She rapidly adjusted to this new life and deeply appreciated her new home each and everyday. She was an optimist and even though her favorite hockey team The Toronto Maple Leafs did not win the Stanley Cup, her spirit was not damped. She insisted that they would do better next season.

Special thanks to the late Dr. James McAlister and Carol McAlister for taking such good care of her and Dr. James Chau and Nadine (nurse) at the North East Specialized Geriatric Center. Also, her long-time nurse Kelly Adams, and other outstanding Bayshore nurses, Home Instead, especially Lyla, and Chris, and PSWs Navjeet, Ola, Cam, and Chika for all their care and compassion. Thank you to Crystal Graham at Behavioral Services Ontario, pharmacists, staff, and Bert at Pharmasave Val Caron for their patience and guidance, and to physio therapist Leslie Morton and occupational therapist Catherine Lanoix, her neighbour Ivan Boucher, and our many friends who have supported us. We are also grateful for the reception staff, nurses, doctors, and volunteers in particular Norita and Renee at Maison McCulloch Hospice. You are proof that angels walk this earth.

At Vera’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with burial at a later date alongside her husband in St. Jacques Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice or the Sudbury Food Bank would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home. For donations or messages of condolence www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com.
