LEHTONEN, Frans “Olavi“ - In loving memory of Frans “Olavi“ Lehtonen, 89 years who passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at Health Sciences North with his family at his side. Beloved husband of 66 years of Pirkko (nee Lahtinen). Loving father of Jarmo (Jacqueline) of Kitchener and Riitta McCullough (Don) of Sudbury. Cherished Pappa of Chad, Brody, Lani, Michael, David, Alaina, Daniella, Troye and Eddie and Iso Pappa of Zoe, Tia, Addison, Mya, Aspen, Violet, Marabella, Madalena, Brooks, Hudson, Sebastian and Boe. Other family members reside in Finland. Olavi was born in Kiukainen, Finland on February 14th, 1923. He came to Sudbury in 1952 and worked construction and then with INCO at Frood Mine until his retirement in 1977. He and Pirkko spent many winters in Lake Worth, Florida and summers at their camp on Long Lake. He enjoyed picking blueberries, babysitting his grandchildren, swimming and going in the sauna. Olavi was a member of the Finnish War Veterans and St. Matthew's Finnish Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as a gentle and loving man who loved life. At Olavi's request, there will be no visitation or service. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Donations to Finlandia Nursing Home or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
