Liimatainen, Allan David

Peacefully, in hospital with family at his side on March 21, 2024 at the age of 72.

Allan was the son of Lydia and Ossian Liimatainen (both predeceased). He leaves behind his beloved wife Brenda (nee Koivu), his cherished son David (Kathleen) and his much loved grandchildren Owen and Emma. Allan was the dear twin brother of Anne Kuuteri (Robert predeceased) and brother of Victor Liimatainen (Paula). He will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Brian Koivu (Ann) and his nephew/Godson Matthew Koivu. Allan was also uncle to Eric Liimatainen and Karl Liimatainen (Natasha). He will be missed by his extended family, his many valued friends and his faithful furry companion Vanna.

Allan was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario (Copper Cliff). He was a proud employee of Air Canada for 38 years beginning at the Sudbury Airport and later transferring to the Ottawa International Airport, where he finished his career as an operations manager. Upon retiring, Allan volunteered with the Ottawa Police Service for 10 years. He was a member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church, a Past Master and member of Hazeldean Masonic Lodge #517 and a member of the Aged in Harmony singing group.

Allan will be remembered as a good friend to many, a hardworking individual and for many years, a person who faced his numerous health challenges with courage and determination (Suomalainen sisu). Most importantly to him, Allan was a loving husband, father and grandfather who would do everything possible to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of his loved ones.

Allan was very grateful for the years of care received by health care professionals at the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He was also very grateful for the support of his family and friends during challenging times.
