In loving memory of Tom Linklater, born in 1930, who passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 at the Elizabeth Centre, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 73 years, His sons Ted (Huguette), Rick (Wendy), and daughter Sherry (Joe). He was predeceased by his son Mike (Theresa). Tom also leaves behind eight grandchildren. (Stephan, Sophie, Neil, Laura, David, Colin, Carrie, and Adam) and six great grandchildren. (Tommy, Eva, Lennie, Elise, Alex, and Bella)

Tom was forever grateful for his immediate and extended family, close friends, the people he worked with, and all his travel adventures by canoe, trailer, and snowmobile.  Tom was especially proud of his book “The Last Forest Ranger”. This gave him the chance to leave a legacy for his grandchildren, a moment in history for The Friends of Algonquin, and a place to pay tribute and tell stories of all the people he worked with in Algonquin Park.

Tom enjoyed staying active in the Capreol community.  Canoe trips, curling, snowmobiling, and x-country skiing were a big part of his life. He was always appreciative to be a valued member of the Capreol X-Country Ski Club where he was a groomer for over 32 years.

When Tom retired in 1984 from the Ministry of Natural Resources, he and Marilyn enjoyed touring Canada and the US in their truck camper and later, in their fifth wheel.  During the years 1990 – 1998 he helped co-ordinate and build the Algonquin Logging Museum, an important tourist attraction within the park itself.

We will miss his sense of humour, his story telling and his infinite source of energy to help and provide guidance to whomever and whenever he could.

We will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Tom on May 25th at the Capreol X-Country Ski Club (99 Lakeshore St, Capreol, ON P0M 1H0), from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

For anyone wishing to donate to a charity in his name,” The Friends of Algonquin” would be an ideal way to remember him by.
