In loving memory of Ruth Maier who passed away peacefully with loving family by her side, on March 26, 2024, in Sooke B.C. at the age of 96.

Dear daughter of Nelson Montgomery and Maime Montgomery (both predeceased), Ruth was born in Kenyon Township, Glengarry, ON on October 2, 1927. Loving sister of Mabel Guindon (predeceased), Howard Montgomery (predeceased) and Joan Montgomery. She married Alfred Maier, the love of her life, in Sudbury in 1949. Together they raised 6 children, Brenda Stobo (Dennis), Reginald (predeceased), Jerry Maier, Janice Willis (Danny), Sharon Maier (Calvin Weber) and Cynthia Maier.

She was the cherished grandmother of Kathryn (James), Jennifer, Jason (Sandra), Kelly (Brandon), Lisa, Virginia, James, Scott (Tanya), Crystal, Ben and Madeleine. Ruth was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren.

She dedicated many hours providing for the care and comfort of her son Reggie throughout his life.

Ruth was a faithful and dedicated member of Hillside Presbyterian church and its community. As an elder of the church and a member of its board, she spearheaded many activities and fundraisers, church dinners, teas and special events. She was well known among her family and friends for being an exceptional cook and was most famous for her delicious cinnamon buns and baking. Her steak and carrots in tomato sauce was a family favourite. Ruth had an extraordinary passion for gardening. She spent many hours from dawn until dusk tending the fruits and vegetables grown in her extensive garden. In her earlier years, she enjoyed time spent camping and looked forward to her fishing trips with husband, ‘Red’ and son Jerry. She was an exceptional seamstress, sewing projects for family and friends. Crafting was another way she expressed her creativity.

As per Ruth’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Internment in the family plot at the Civic Memorial Cemetery in Sudbury, will take place at a later date.
