In loving memory of George Malis, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, after a lengthy illness, two weeks shy of his 68th birthday. Beloved husband and best friend of Toula Sakellaris (nee Lagges). Sorely missed by Vagelli (Tara), George and Troy Sakellaris and by his daughter Penny. George also leaves his sisters, Evangelia Krukis (George) and Eleftheria Vartzikou. Predeceased by his father Andreas, mother Penelopi (nee Tsardias) and brother-in-law Manolis Vartzikou.

Born in Mitilinii on the island of Samos, Greece, George immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. He apprenticed as a mechanic in Windsor, Ontario, and began to hone the skills that would bear him well in the years to come. George eventually partnered with the owners of Kimberly Motors in Sudbury, Ontario. Once he became the owner and operator, he grew the business known as Sudbury Fine Cars for 37 years, selling vehicles to customers, many of whom became close friends, throughout Northern Ontario. George cherished the relationships he made with his employees and customers over the years.

Kind and generous, George always put others before himself. He will be remembered as a man of strong faith, a leader and pillar of the Greek Community of Sudbury. He served as President and Cantor over the years, and in recognition of his service to the Greek Orthodox Church, His Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, honoured George as an Archon, Laosynaktis.

The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at Health Sciences North and Bayshore. An extra special thank you to his caregiver Barbara, Kostis Papadopoulos, nurse Fatima, Dr. Pudupakkam, Dr. Thakrar, Dr. Koka, Dr. Harmond, Dr. De Blacam, Dr. Provatopoulos, Dr. Papadopoulos, and to the numerous other doctors, nurses and support workers for their care and compassion. The family is also grateful for the support of Gerry and Geoffrey Lougheed.
