MARTIN, Stanley A. - In loving memory of Stanley A. Martin, 83 years of Capreol, died on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013. He was born September 27th, 1929 in Sudbury. Son of Roy and Winnifred (Pierce) Martin. Beloved husband of Verna (Sawyer) Martin. Loving father of Karen Lennox (Tom) of Capreol, Phyllis Farquharson (Dave) of Val Therese, Royal Martin (Tracy) of Campbell River, BC, Robert (Val) of Bradford and Kathaleen “Kathy“ Johnson (Jay) of Riverside, California. Cherished grandfather of Tommy, Jessica (Terry Renaud), Trevor (Deanne Potvin), Jeffrey (Crystal), Jennifer (Chris Seguin), Alysha, Carver, Arthur, Gregory, Nicholas, Michael, Hannah, Claire and great grandfather of Kaylin, Ethan and Gavan. Predeceased by his sister Kathaleen “Kay“ Mohns (Ray). He attended school in Capreol and Montreal. He was united in Marriage to Verna Sawyer on May 2nd, 1955 in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Capreol. He worked with CNR until January 1958 at which time he joined the Hanna Mining Company at their Lowphos Ore operation in Capreol. He was maintenance superintendant until January 1st, 1979. He was then transferred to their mining operation in Hibbing, Minnesota. He continued his career as maintenance advisor at operations in Michigan, Oregon, Colombia, South America and Turkey. He retired in October 1991 and enjoyed 12 great years with his wife and a lot of very special friends in Hibbing. Stan returned to his roots and with Verna settled back into Capreol where he once was a pillar of the community on the town council and then as Deputy Mayor for 13 years. He was Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #3866 Capreol Council, an active member of St. Kevin's Parish, Capreol Seniors Club and the Hanna Salaried Retirees Club. Throughout his life he used to enjoy playing hockey, baseball and football. He also loved coaching baseball and minor hockey. Stan loved fishing and gardening very much but everybody who knew him knew his great love was for his wife Verna of 57 years and his family. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Dr., Hanmer, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral mass at Our Lady of Peace Church, Capreol Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11 AM Cremation with inurnment at the Capreol Cemetery.
