With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nonna, and dear friend Carmela Maselli on April 1st, 2024. She is survived by her two daughters Nina and Rosaria (Pio Cerilli) and granddaughters, Julia, and Vanessa. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Carmela was born in Accadia, Foggia on January 1st, 1938, to her parents Antonio and Rosaria Passero (both predeceased) and was the loving sister to Theresa, Sebastiano, and Lorenzo, all predeceased.

Carmela married her husband Vito Maselli (predeceased) on November 9th, 1957. She migrated to Canada in June of 1958 to begin her life with her husband. Together, they shared 27 years of unconditional love.

Although her family lived far away in Italy, she made many lifelong friends in Sudbury whom she loved dearly and considered family. Carmela enjoyed being surrounded by people. On Saturday’s and Sunday’s, the Maselli house was often filled with love and laughter, brought by her beloved friends and family. Everyone was welcomed at the Maselli home.

Carmela faced many challenges and hardships throughout her life. After losing her husband at a young age she continued to raise her two daughters on her own, and work as a custodian at Lasalle Secondary School. Carmela was extremely strong and resilient, which are qualities she was admired for.

Carmela’s pride and joy were her granddaughters, whom she loved and adored. She had the pleasure of witnessing her granddaughters grow up and was part of many milestones. She was incredibly supportive and spoiled her granddaughters whenever she could.

You could often find Carmela in the kitchen creating delicious meals with enough food to feed an army. Some of the favourite meals that she will be remembered for are her delicious tomato sauce, salami roll, and peaches. She enjoyed spending time outside, in the summer you could find her sitting in the carport, enjoying a cup of coffee. At home Carmela would spend hours binge watching her favourite soap operas with Nina.

Carmela was a loving and devoted mother, Nonna and friend. Her unconditional love and memories will continue to live on in our hearts forever. Although Carmela will be deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with her loving husband Vito, and many relatives and friends. Thank you for everything mom and Nonna, we will miss you.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to Tammy, Suzanne, and Florence. Thank you for caring and looking out for our mother and Nonna.
