MATICHUK, William Anthony - It is with profound sadness the family of William Anthony (Tony) Matichuk announces his sudden passing March 29th, 2011 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. Loving husband and best friend of Janice Matichuk (nee Heikkila). Loving and caring father to Andrea (Jason Lesk) and Miranda Matichuk. Beloved son of Sonya (nee Macks) and Bill Matichuk (predeceased). Proud brother of Marianne Matichuk (Jim Chalmers). Nephew of Dennis Macks and Rose Morden. Brother-in- law to Joyce Desjardins (Rene) and family (Terry, Tim, and Allison). Predeceased by his grandparents Rhodie and Anne Macks and Anthony and Mary (Steve Dowzuk) Matichuk. Dear lifelong friend of Ron Podorozny (Karen) and Dan Ranich (Liz). Tony will be sadly missed by his canine buddies Brodie and Raven. An electrician by trade and a Quarter Century recipient from Vale, Tony was a longtime employee, where he was a Worker Rep at Crean Hill Mine in Worthington, a Health and Safety Instructor at the Nickel Refinery, and most recently at Vale's Reconditioning Shop. Tony was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors, and hunted for many years at a northern hunt camp. He enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, boating, woodworking, and spending time with family at his beloved camp on Lake Penage in Whitefish. Tony was also a lifetime member of the Crean Hill Gun Club, where he was also President for many years. As a young man, Tony was an excellent hockey player, a sport he followed throughout his life. Strong and always determined, Tony never gave up on anything, even when his health began failing him. He will be missed by many people who had the pleasure of being part of his life. Although gone, Tony will remain in the hearts of those he knew forever. Memorial Visitation at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Friends may call 7-9pm Thursday and after 2pm Friday. A Celebration of Tony's life will be held 7pm Friday, April 1st, 2011 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
