MATOVINA, Zora

February 8, 2013 77

MATOVINA, Zora (Svalina) - In Loving Memory of Zora (Svalina) Matovina 77 years. Peacefully, Wednesday, February 6th, 2013 at Pioneer Manor. Reunited with her beloved husband Marko (deceased). Sadly missed by family in Sudbury, Ivica and Marica Svalina, Katica Svalina-Grottoli (husband Daniel and daughter Daniela), John Svalina (wife Tina, children Johnny and Anna) and Michael Svalina (wife Jennifer, children Michael and Maya). Survived and loved by many family and friends in Canada and Croatia. Born in Rasticevu, Boznia Herzegovina. With only a picture and a letter from a man promising to marry her, Zora courageously came to Canada to meet and marry Marko in Sudbury, 1958. They spent the best years of their lives in the Donovan, living amongst their Croatian friends and within walking distance of the Croatian Hall. Here they ate, danced, sang and socialized with people who became life long friends. They enjoyed traveling together and these adventures filled their lives with joyful memories. Zora was an excellent cook; strudel was her specialty. She also created beautiful needle point pictures that she was very proud of. Furthermore, she was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Zora was a member of Sveti Marko Church all of her life. In her healthier years, she took great pride in maintaining the flower gardens in front of the church. Even though she was not in good health later in life, she still looked forward to attending mass; especially the Christmas Eve midnight mass. The music and prayer uplifted her. Special thanks to the staff at Pioneer Manor who made her last two years more comfortable as Zora received professional and compassionate care. It was a blessing to have Helen Boric provide care for Zora in her native language. Helen became a close friend to Zora and is very much admired and appreciated for everything she has done for both Zora and the Svalina Family. Finally, thank you to those who took the time to call or visit Zora during her time at Pioneer Manor.
