On March 21, 2024, Madeline Mayer (born Stojko) peacefully passed away, in her 85th year.

Born May 5th, 1938, in Sudbury to immigrant parents – Mary and Mike Stojko (predeceased). She met the love of her life in the late ‘50’s and married JD (Herman) Mayer. They had 30 wonderful years together before his passing December 2nd, 1989.Together they raised a family of 4 children – Donna Lynn, Jim (Angela), John (predeceased) and Jason (Jasmine) – in the community of Naughton. Grandmother to Giacomo Di Fillipo and Mackenzie Mayer and special “Grandma Mayer” to Blayde.

Madeline was involved with many local organizations, including a life-long membership in the Liberal Party; she also enjoyed playing bridge and poker. Madeline will be remembered for her infectious laugh, bright red lipstick and loving demeanor.

“Mrs. Mayer”, as generations of school children knew her, taught the primary grades at R.H. Murray, Naughton Public School, and Jessie Hamilton, for 36 years. She retired in 1992 and enjoyed traveling and murder mysteries.

The final year of her life was enjoyed at the Long-Term Care facility of Pioneer Manor. A big thank you goes out to the staff of the Trillium West wing for making her stay there enjoyable and comfortable. You know who you are.

Visitation to be held at Lougheed's Regent location, 252 Regent street at Hazel Street. Monday, March 25th,2024 at 2p.m.-4p.m. and 6p.m.-8p.m. Mass will be at St. Christopher’s Church, Whitefish, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 11:00 am. Interment in the family plot at Whitefish Catholic Cemetery to follow with refreshments afterwards.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Christopher’s Church or Rainbow School Board Breakfast Program would be appreciated.
