It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Enda McGuinness on April 2nd, 2024, at the age of 92.
Peter was born in Ireland on April 10th, 1931. Beloved husband of the late Anne Marie McGuinness (nee Gingras, 2003) and loving father to his daughter Susan Belli (Fabio pre-deceased, 2014). Peter was also an incredibly proud grandfather to his granddaughters Emma and Brianna Belli. The youngest child of the late Francis and Myriah McGuinness, he is predeceased by his siblings Patrick, Thomas and Kathleen.
Arriving in Canada in 1957, Peter found his way to Sudbury to work in the smelter at INCO. He married Anne Marie in 1967 and, together, they made a loving home in the West End of Sudbury. Peter was a kind neighbour who enjoyed stopping to chat. He loved cooking his meat and potatoes, watching hockey and teasing his grandchildren. Peter also took pleasure in gardening and joked that his lawn was so green because he had brought the seeds over with him from Ireland. He could often be found brushing and talking to his much-loved fur grand-dog, Maggie or “accidentally” dropping food for Milo.
Our family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at the St. Joseph's Continuing Care Centre's Clarion Site for their assistance, the PSWs who helped him over the years and his friends Don and Darren with whom he shared many laughs. We are especially grateful to Jody Lamothe as his care, support and friendship with Peter have been invaluable during these last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.
As per Peter’s and the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation.
Cremation with interment will be in the Parklawn Cemetery.
