MERRIAM, Irene (Mickey) Landers (nee Moroney) - Peacefully at the Kingsway Retirement Residence, on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Harvey Merriam, and loving mother of Barbara (Robert) and Ann (Dale). Cherished grandmother of Ian and Ann McKellar, Barbara Johnston and Catharine Merriam-Gorman. Dear sister of Sheila (Konrad/Herbert), Lillian, Desmond (Margreth) and Terry (Enid). Fondly remembered by: nieces Irene, Andrea, Kelly, and Caroline, nephews Michael, Chris and Robbie, and former sons-in-law Bob (Pat) and Martin (Nancy). Predeceased by her brothers Robert, Ben, and Matthew, sisters May and Noreen, and niece Teresa. She will be remembered by family and friends for her passionate love of the theatre. Mickey was born in Espanola, Ontario in 1923. She became involved in amateur theatre in Sudbury at age 19 and never looked back. Over the years she directed numerous productions at the Sudbury Little Theatre Guild, Theatre Sudbury, and at area high schools, with the technical support of Gordon. In 1971, Mickey and Gordon moved to Toronto where she continued to work on shows with adults and students, always encouraging and supporting excellence. Friends may call at the TURNER & PORTER BUTLER CHAPEL, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Avenues) on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on February 11, 2011, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts: Student Success Scholarship, or to the charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Scholarship contributions cheques can be made out to 'Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts' - memo line “Student Success, Irene Merriam“.
