MICHAUD, Rhéal Joseph - In Loving Memory of Rhéal Joseph Michaud, M.D. 85 years Monday, December 26th, 2011 at Health Sciences North. Beloved husband of Ida (Dasti) Michaud predeceased 2011. Loving father of Denis Michaud (Holly) and Monique Michaud. Cherished son of Alfred & Lucie Michaud predeceased. Dear brother of Rita Trudel, Lucienne Delorme, Leo-Paul Michaud, Lorenzo Michaud and predeceased by Gilberte Perreault, Jeannette Dore and Gilbert Michaud. Special brother in law to Marilyn and Richard Paquette. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, godchildren and their families. Born in Crystal Falls, Ontario, September 20th, 1926, Rhéal attended Sturgeon Falls High School where he obtained an honor matriculation. In June 1953 he graduated in medicine “cum laude“ from the University of Ottawa and interned at Ottawa General from 1952-1953. Rhéal went to Indianapolis where he was on staff at Methodist Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He did post-graduate work in pathology, general surgery, thoracic and cardiac surgery. He was a member of the Indianapolis Medical Society, the Indianapolis Surgical Society, the Indianapolis Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Rhéal was a fellow of the American College of Angiology. In 1958 he obtained his fellowship to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was a member of the Ontario Medical Association. In 1958, Rhéal opened a medical office in Sudbury and practiced medicine for 35 years. He was on staff at Sudbury's three hospitals and served a number of terms on various committees. He was on the Board of Directors of Laurentian Hospital from 1979 to 1983. Rhéal was on the team of doctors who set up Sudbury's first Cardiac Unit at the Memorial Hospital. He closed his medical office in 1987 and assisted with heart surgeries until February 1995. An ardent outdoorsman, Rhéal enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent all his free time on the farm at Wabageshik Lake. Many of his colleagues and friends have enjoyed baskets of his fresh vegetables. He learned the art of canoe making from his father and enjoyed making his own cedar strip canoe and repaired several canoes belonging to some of his many friends. A celebration of Rhéal's life will be held in the R. J. Barnard Chapel JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME 233 Larch St., Sudbury Friday, December 30th, 2011 at 2pm. Cremation with entombment in the Civic Cemetery. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. (Friends may gather in the chapel after 1:45pm Friday).
