Giuseppe (“Joe”, “Bepi”) Michelizza passed away on August 19th, at the age of eighty-seven years.

Bepi leaves behind his devoted wife, Marisa, to whom he was married for sixty-one years. He had four children: Gregory (predeceased), David, Michael, and Sylvia (Robin Joly), who will sorely miss their Dad. His grandchildren, Juliana, Louis, Celeste, Mira, and Alexandre are also all so sad to lose their beloved Nonno. He especially delighted in his grandchildren, who he teased and spoiled in equal parts. Bepi also cherished his brother Agostino (predeceased), and his sister, Laura (husband Gabe) Tomassoni, as well as all of his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born in Tarcento, Italy, Giuseppe immigrated to Canada at the age of eighteen. Throughout his life, he remained very proud of his Friulan heritage.  Giuseppe was a lifelong learner and creative problem-solver: intelligent and an incredibly hard worker, he became a master carpenter who never hesitated to share his knowledge and skills with anyone who needed his help. He truly enjoyed making things, and was so generous with his talents. Always industrious, Joe never missed a day in his workshop, even after retirement. He leaves a wonderful legacy in the buildings, furniture, and cabinetry that he created throughout his life, as well as with the knowledge he imparted to all who worked with him.

He will be remembered for this, for his dry sense of humour, and for his love of sport. Joe loved the outdoors, and was active hunter and fisherman. He was also an avid golfer, curler, bowler, and bocce player. In his retirement years, Joe enjoyed visiting Florida in winter, where he continued with woodworking, and played golf and bocce with his friends.

As per his request, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.

If desired, donations to The Blue Door Soup Kitchen, The Sudbury Food Bank, or any other charity may be made in his honour.
