MYSLIK, Jaroslaw

May 11, 2012 66

MYSLIK, Jaroslaw (Gerry) - In loving memory of Jaroslaw (“Gerry“) Myslik, 66 years, who after a short battle with cancer, passed away at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on May 9th, 2012, with loving family by his side. Devoted husband of 27 years to Dale (nee Thornley). Proud and devoted father of Peter of Sudbury and Jordan of Victoria BC. Dearly loved son of Anna and the late Dmytro Myslik of Toronto. Dear brother of Eugene of Toronto. Cherished friend of father-in-law William Thornley and sister-in-law Cathy Thornley. Born in Kassel, West Germany, Gerry immigrated to Toronto with his family at age 5. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Gerry came to Sudbury in 1971 to work as a Toxicology Biologist for the Ministry of the Environment, later assuming the positions of Regional Biologist, Chief Surface Water Evaluator and Chief: Water Resources. In 1994 he moved to the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development & Mines where he was a Rehabilitation Specialist until taking an early retirement in 1999. After retirement, he took on a number of consulting projects, but most importantly, became his family's much-appreciated “chief cook and bottle washer“ and “go-to“ person for errands and chauffeuring. He spent many happy hours walking with family and dogs “in the woods“ near the family home. Friends and colleagues will remember Gerry as the “king of pike“ in several local pike derbies and less formal gatherings like the “Badger Lake Invitational“. He dominated the annual MNDM fishing derby for several years as well. Fishing was always a favourite pastime and one happily shared with Peter, Jordan and Dale throughout the years. It was only Peter who was ever a threat to Gerry's reign –but then of course, Gerry was “handicapped“ by driving the boat while fishing. Annual summer camping trips to Killbear Park in Parry Sound were a treasured part of family life. It was here that Gerry mastered the art of steel-line trolling for lake trout and could be counted on to provide fresh trout for dinner. Many thanks to Dr. Ewing-Bui and Dr. Gill for their quick action and for providing the best possible treatment for Gerry. A special thank you to Gerry's nurses on the 7th, 5th and 4th floors for their wonderful care. A memorial service in celebration of Gerry's life will be held on Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at 2 p.m., St. Andrew's United Church, 111 Larch St. in Sudbury. Reception to follow. Gifts in memory of Gerry may be made to Northern Cancer Foundation (for Cancer Research) or St. Andrew's United Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements entrusted to the JACKSON and BARNARD FUNERAL HOME.
