NISSILA, Eino - Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Finnish Rest Home on Thursday April 28, 2011, at the age of 88. Eino was the youngest son of Hanna (Ramakko) and Kaarlo Nissila. He was born in the Long Lake area of Sudbury and lived there most of his life. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. On his retirement from Inco (Vale) he became the “Mad Trapper“ and spent his winters on the trapline. He loved words and could recite the poems of Robert Service from heart, his favourite being “The Shooting of Dan McGrew“ and “The Cremation of Sam McGee“. “Casey at the Bat“ and “The Tale of Rex“ were heard around many a camp fire every summer. He also authored a book “The Pioneers of Long Lake“, a history of his homeland. He leaves behind his three daughters, Debbie Conway (Eddie), of Desbarats, Ontario, Carol Jones (Teddy), of Quogue, Long Island, New York, and Cathy Neidy (Mike) of Ottawa, Ontario, and three granddaughters, Tiana, Emily and Zoe. He is predeceased by his brothers Arne and Vic (Linne) and sister Laina Harju (Hap). He is missed by nephew Melvin Harju (Patsy). He was long time companion of Joyce Stromberg and good fishing buddy to Ollie and Stella Peltomaki. He will be remembered fondly by his many friends and neighbours in the Long Lake area. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Mauno Kahli Koti who compassionately cared for Eino for the past 5 years. At his request, there will be no service. Donations to the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association would be appreciated. (Arrangements entrusted to O'SULLIVAN DONNELLY FUNERAL HOME 705-759-8456).
