In loving Memory of Johanna Christine Peel who passed away peacefully with family present at her bedside, on January 9th, 2023, at North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 81 years. Daughter of the late Edward and Lily (McIver) Peel. Sister to the late Wilfred (Yvette) Peel, Sharron (Robert) Edgar, Rose (late Pat) Haufe and Roberta (Ted) Kosiw. Affectionally known as a Special Aunt Jo/Grandma Jo to Erin (Jon), Heather, Greg (Terri-Lyn), Avis (Ben), Rheanna (Kevin), Jim and John (Kylah). Great Aunt to Thomas, Ila, Andrew, David, Lillyanna, Annabelle, Felix, Charlotte, Carolyn, and Benson.

Johanna was born in Sudbury, Ontario on March 26th, 1941, grew up on McKim Street in Little Britain and had moved to North Bay over 30 years ago. She was a founding member of Glad Tidings Church (Tabernacle) and active in the youth group, choir, track club and had a strong faith in God. She attended Lansdowne Public School and Sudbury Secondary High School (active in ISCF). Johanna, inspired by Aunt Alice (Peel) Smith, was a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing (1966), President of the Nursing Student Council, organized a successful, profitable Rummage Sale and was a Member of the Alumnae Association. Johanna worked as a Registered Nurse on Pediatrics at Sudbury Memorial Hospital (she loved her child patients and they loved her back), CNIB and other areas of Nursing. She was conscientious, competent, hard working, a team member, always happy, lifted morale and the whole ward was happier when she was there. Johanna was intelligent and excelled when she took any continuing education courses. Highly respected by Medical and Fellow Nursing Colleagues and Classmates.

Johanna was very artistic, talented and had an impeccable taste in fashion. She blessed her family and friends with sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and painting gifts. “Joey” went on trips with friends, colleagues, relatives and enjoyed old fashioned camping. She had a good heart, warm smile, was a good sport, and had an extremely good sense of humour with a hearty laugh. Johanna will be fondly remembered as a very loving, motherly, kind, gentle and generous spirit. She is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with loved ones who have gone before.

Thank you to Dr. Salako, A-1/Evergreen Staff and Allied Health Care Professionals for their kind and compassionate care of Johanna for many years. They had been like her family and to whom she had endeared herself.
