PELLETIER, Joanne - In Loving Memory of Joanne Pelletier 45 years, who passed away Sunday March 31st, 2013, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlotte Town, PEI. Beloved mother of Ryan Pelletier- Murphy of Nova Scotia. Cherished partner of Curtis Cavenson. Dear sister of Daniel (Susann Gyoeri) of London, and Gisele (Jim Caruso) of Toronto. Loving daughter of Dorice and Annette (nee Guilbeault) Pelletier both predeceased. Joanne left us far too early, however she had numerous accomplishments and achieved many milestones in her life. Her sporting accomplishments in ringette and softball were certainly some of the moments she and her father shared and cherished. Her love for sport and physical activity were infectious. She was a wonderful athlete, team mate, coach and mentor. Many young athletes were touched by Joanne's work. She completed her Bachelor of Physical Education and Health Promotion and her Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University. She worked as an elementary school teacher before returning to graduate studies. Joanne completed her Masters and Ph.D. degrees at the Université de Montréal. She taught part time at the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas before returning to Canada to teach full time at Acadia University and then Laurentian University. She received an Acadia Student Union teaching award. Over her career, she mentored many students and strived to impart the importance of inclusive education in her pupils. She was a passionate educator who put the needs of those around her ahead of all else. Right up to her death, she supported her son Ryan in his different physical activities like canoeing and golf and especially in his hockey and baseball. She loved the outdoors. She was a caring and considerate mother and she will be missed. In the last few years her passion was helping and advocating for women from abusive situation. She also was working towards being a volunteer and facilitating groups threw CMHA to help people with Mental Health. She also found interest in the Native Culture in the recent years. There is a word in the Native Language, SWKHABEWIS, helper of the people, and that is what she was in whatever her passion was in life. You will be missed by all.
