PERREAULT, Hélène

May 2, 2013 100

PERREAULT, Hélène (née Ouellette) - It is with great sorrow that the family witnessed the peaceful passing of our dear mother at Pioneer Manor on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 at the age of 100 years. Hélène was born in Bonfield on June 7th, 1912. She graduated from normal school at 16 years old in Sturgeon Falls with a teaching certificate. She was always fashionably dressed to teach and always in her high heel shoes. She gave birth to eight children while she continued to teach. She was very involved in her community in Sturgeon Falls. She sang at church weddings and wrote articles in the “North Bay Nugget“ about Sturgeon Falls. She was an active member of the daughters of Isabella and was chosen to give a speech at a daughters of Isabella's conference in Boston. In 1962, she agreed to move to Sudbury to let her husband fulfill his dream of opening a grocery store. Together, they operated “H.P. Grocery and Confectionary“ on Montague Street in Donovan, 7 days a week for 10 years. To better serve her clients, she took a conversational Italian class at night. She would always follow through with her dreams. At 72 years old she decided it was time to take up golf. At close to 60 years old, she decided to get her drivers license. Reading was her passion, she always had a book in her hands. She loved to play bridge and continued to play well into her 90's. Hélène was the wife of the late Hormidas Perreault (Sudbury citizen of the year in 1975). Hélène was the loving mother of Ronald Perreault (Louise) of Montreal, Lucille Botsford (late Bob) of Fort Frances, Monique Allain (late Sylvio) of Sudbury, Jean-Luc Perreault (Lise) of Iroquois Falls and Francine Blake (Jean Marc) of Montreal and dear sister of Lucille Cusson of Val Caron. She was predeceased by her daughter Géraldine Hingley, two babies Lucette and Michel and by her brothers. Predeceased by her brothers Louis, André, George and Lionel. She will be dearly missed by her 18 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 2 great great- grandchildren. The family is deeply appreciative of the dedication, compassion and respect displayed by all the staff of Pioneer Manor. They allowed her to maintain her dignity right to the end. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury on Friday, May 3rd, 2013 at 12 p.m. Donations (by cheque only) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would greatly be appreciated.
