PETERS, Laurette

April 12, 2012 86

PETERS, Laurette Simone (nee Leger) - The family of Mrs. Laurette (Leger) Peters (born June 16, 1924) with great sadness, wish to announce the peaceful passing of an ever loving wife, mother and grandmother on the morning of April 9, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones at Health Sciences North. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Abraham “Bob“ Peters, her sons Jackson Peters, his wife Penny and Brian Peters, his partner Glenn Lloyd and foster son David Shannon of Montreal, QC. She also tragically lost her middle son Patrick in 1983, wife Annette. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Alison, wife Debbie, and Jessica, partner Marc Leclair and her step grandsons Conrad and Christopher, partner Stephane. She also leaves behind many grieving nieces and nephews: too many to list. Laurette was the daughter of the late Samuel and Helene Leger (nee Ricard) of River Valley, ON. Laurette is predeceased by her brother Patrick Leger (Jean), her sister Therese Lachance (husband Arthur Lachance), brother Lloyd Leger (wife Simone) and survived by her youngest sister Marie (nee Leger) Boisvenue: husband Claude Boisvenue. Mom never worked outside the home, but she will be fondly remembered by so many for the accomplishments she made at home. Mom was the most loving wife and mother to her family taking great pride in them. For years, while living in Creighton Mine, she was a skilled seamstress, sewing dresses and gowns for all occasions including entire wedding parties for so many women throughout the Sudbury area. In addition she was an incredible cake decorator. She created cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. that were in demand from near and far. She was also a past president of the CWL at St. Michael's Church in Creighton Mine. She also was very popular with women and young ladies who sought her out to have their ears pierced (the needle and thread method) only asking for a china cup and saucer in return. There are also a number of people out there and they know who they are that had the wonderful experience of being babysat by her when they were little. When Mom wasn't cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, entertaining friends and family, etc., she kept busy knitting, crocheting, painting, raising canaries, budgies and tropical fish. She was a true artist in her own right and loved every minute of it. For many years she and Dad enjoyed spending their summers at Holiday Haven now known as Manitoulin Resort on the “Island“ next to her sons Jack and Brian and many friends. The family would also like to extend their appreciation for the wonderful care and attention provided by all the staff on 4 West of Extendicare Falconbridge, Dr. Roch, Mrs. Louise Arbour, S.W., Cindy Rowe and nurses Chris and Darell on the 8th floor of Health Sciences North for their compassionate care of Mom during her final hours. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. East, SUDBURY, Thursday from 7-9:30 p.m. and Friday from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday April 14th, 2012 at 12 noon, in the Chapel, Sudbury. Interment to follow in St-Stanislaus Cemetery, Lively. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations (by cheque only) to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
