October 29, 2012 83

PETKOVICH, Frank - In loving memory of Frank Petkovich, 83 years, Friday, October 26th, 2012 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Predeceased by parents Anton & Lucia Petkovich of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, brother Ivan and first wife Hilda Theresa (nee McCormick). Sadly missed by wife Barbara Ann and his children, Anthony Frances (Karen) of Garson, Michael Gerrard (JoAnn) of Toronto, Patrick Martin (Patrice) of Kingston, David James (Andrea) of Whitehorse, Yukon and daughter Lisa Marie Brown (Ian) of Stouffville, stepdaughter Nicole (Frank) Guido, stepson Paul and 11 grandchildren, Daniel (Kaydee), James (Amber), Jean-Christophe, Lucie, Jesse, Ethan, Benjamin, Darby, Phoebe, Nakeam and Hayley and great grandchildren, Baya and Cohen. Born in Vrpolje, Croatia in 1928, he emigrated with his family to Kirkland Lake when he was 8 years old. Frank graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in 1954 and started as a research metallurgist for Falconbridge Nickel Mines where he worked for 34 years, rising to the level of management by gaining the respect and trust from everyone he worked with at every level of the company. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and was recipient of a Distinguished Service Medal. He retired from Falconbridge Ltd., in 1985. An active member of the community, Frank served on the boards of community organizations too numerous to mention. He believed in taking his work and responsibilities seriously but laughed at himself. In the short time he had in this life, he did his best for his family, friends, employees and his community and always with a sense of humour. He exercised his authority with responsibility and integrity. He believed that the largest room was the one for improvement and hoped that his efforts made life even just a little bit better for others. The family will receive relatives and friends, Monday, October 29th from 2-5PM and 7-9PM at JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. A Celebration of Frank's life will take place in the R.J. Barnard Chapel on Tuesday, October 30th at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Frank's memory to the Northern Cancer Foundation, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada and the SPCA, Sudbury.
