PHILIPOW, Peter

April 24, 2013 87

PHILIPOW, Peter - The family announces with sorrow his death in Sudbury on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Son of Ukrainian immigrants Joseph and Jennie (née Danchuck) Philipow predeceased. Also predeceased by his sister Anne and brother-in-law Matt Chopiak of Windsor and predeceased by his brother Alexander Philipow (wife Irene). Dear brother-in-law to Henri and Rita Branconnier, Jean-Guy and Pierrette Bigras, Jacques and Florence Joliat, Ronald and Lorraine Bigras. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 66 years Dolorès (née Bigras) and daughters Rose-Anne Poitras of Sudbury, Suzanne (husband Doug) Graham of Amherstburg, sons Dan (wife Jo-Ann), Ivan (wife Monique) and Brian (wife Ginette) all of Sudbury and André (wife Monique) of Bradford. He leaves behind a legacy of a large family. Proud, fun-loving and always caring, Grandpa will never be forgotten by his grandchildren Laurie-Anne (Dan), Michael (Cathy), Chantal (Guy), Katherine (Marty), Kevin, Neal (Renee), Éric, Natasha, David, Jennie, Chloé and 7 great- grandchildren whom he cherished. Our lives will forever have a piece missing in his absence. Family had always been the focus of his life. He was a great humanitarian and never hesitated to dedicate his time and energy serving on many committees in his community including: past Member of the Ratepayers Association, past President of Junction Creek Association, past Founder of Percy Playground, past Directeur de la Caisse Populaire St-Jean-de-Brébeuf, past Président du Flour Mill Museum, past member of the Heritage Foundation Committee of Ontario; Sudbury Chapter and past Président du Club Amical du Nouveau Sudbury. Peter was a people person who was outgoing and friendly to all he met and always a gentleman. Everyone's Favorite Helper, he took great joy and delight in lending a hand. He was full of life and inspired all who met him with his smile and good humour and thought the purpose in our lives was happiness. While participating in one of his favorite past times, Peter would always set the pins trembling at the other end of the lane with only his presence behind the foul line. It is noted that first came the date of his birth, followed by a date filled with tears, but what matters most of all, is the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that he spent alive on earth, and now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth. The family wishes to express a sincere, poignant Thank you to Dr. Guy Mongeon and the God-sent staff at the Vale Hospice for their relentless help and support. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St-Jean-de-Brébeuf, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers donations (by cheque only) to the Maison Vale Hospice would be appreciated.
