In loving memory of Franco Piccolo born on February 27, 1941 and passed away on January 19,
2024 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice. Loving husband of Madeleine (nee Labelle). Dear son
of Antonio Piccolo and Maria Celloto both predeceased. Dear brother of Corinna (Gino Glerean
predeceased), Ione (Elio Odorico predeceased), Bianca (Fulvio Fogolin predeceased).
Predeceased by his oldest sister Felicita (Odone Lello predeceased) and youngest brother
Francesco (Andréa). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Franco was born in Morsano, Italy. He came to Canada in 1969 with his brother. He married
Madeleine in 1974 at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church in Sudbury ON. They celebrated 49 years of
marriage and they were truly made for each other. He shared his last breath with his loving
wife, as she stared into his tender baby blue eyes and whispered, “Go to sleep my love”. Their
marriage was a true testament that with love and compromise, all is possible.
He worked hard all of his life in the construction industry however Franco’s true joys were at
home. Along with his wife, he was usually greeted back home by his Siamese cats. It was
evident that he had a love for his vegetable and flower gardens. He worked for hours in the
gardens and then he sat for hours in the backyard sipping on his homemade wine and admiring
his work of art. His tomatoes were his masterpieces. Another one of his joys was doing
puzzles (rompecabezas). Many hours were spent with family members, creating fond memories
around the kitchen table. His last puzzle was finished with his wife on their wedding
anniversary on December 28, 2023. Doing puzzles with Franco taught a person patience and
determination. Sorting through a puzzle box was like sorting through life. Each puzzle piece
was unique, like each member of his family. In this we are reminded that as pieces are put
together, no matter their differences, once connected, there is beauty at the end even if some
struggles had been encountered along the way.
As a thank you for all their help and kindness, donations can be made at the Maison McCulloch
Hospice.
