PITKETHLY, Jean (nee Shortts) - In Loving Memory of Jean Pitkethly (nee Shortts) 93 years Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 at St. Joseph's Villa. It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Pitkethly announces her passing on March 5th, 2013. Jean was born on January 7, 1920 to Estelle and Frederick Shortts in Newburg, Ontario. She is survived by her loving husband Doug and cherished son Cam and his wife Marian. She was also the devoted nana to Erin (Dan Dorval), Amy (Rob Simpson) and Katie (John Badovinac) and loving great-nana of Molly and Bronwyn Pitkethly, Lucy and Miller Simpson, and William and Adam Badovinac. Jean and Doug were married in Fort Erie and moved north to own and operate Lift the Latch Lodge on the French River from 1945-1951. After moving to Sudbury they opened Pit's House of Treasures in 1962 where Jean excelled as a businesswoman. Jean and Doug retired to enjoy winters in Keywest Florida and summers at Lake Penage. Jean was predeceased by her brothers Cameron and Roy Shortts and her sister Lorna Huffman. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Jean had a great affection for her animals especially her beloved dogs The family thanks the staff at St. Joseph's Villa for their kindness and excellent care. A Family memorial will be held later in the year at Lake Penage. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Sick Children's Hospital or the S.P.C.A.
