August 1, 2012

PRODAN, Dennis - It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Dennis William Prodan of Elliot Lake, Tuesday, July 17th, 2012. Beloved husband and best friend of Carole. Proud father of Shane (Rya) of Ottawa, Tammy (Colin) Veevers of Sudbury, Katrina (Kevin) Read of Cobourg. Loving Grandpa of Madison, Bradley, Charlotte and Baby Prodan. Son of the late Tom and Margaret Prodan of Elliot Lake. Beloved brother of Allen (Linda) of Sault Ste. Marie and the late Mel Prodan (Jan) of St. Joseph Island. Brother-in-law of Elaine (Roger) Lafreniere, Patricia (Robert) Stirling, Sharon (late David) (Don) Tresidder-St.Pierre. Loved son-in-law of the late Pep and Did Purss. Uncle Dennis to many. Also dear to his heart, Michelle and Joan. Dennis was a family man who devoted his time and energy to making life the best it could be for his grandchildren, children and wife. He loved family-bonding-time and was known for having his door open to all friends and family any time of the day. Dennis was a devoted veterinarian to the people and animals of Elliot Lake and Blind River. He sat on many committees for veterinarians and held one of the longest running Veterinary Conferences in Ontario for over 30 years. He dedicated himself to continuing education in vet practices and medicine, he was a past-President of the Northern Ontario Veterinary Association and represented northern interests at the OVMA. He was a proud and active member of the community of Elliot Lake, sitting on numerous councils, committees and boards, such as town council as a councilor, then deputy-mayor for several years, Parks and Recreation, the Cemetery Board and the Economic Development Board. He strived to make his community beautiful, actively leading projects such as Westview Park, the Senior Citizen's Park, Elliot Lake Boat Launch, and downtown planning. Recently, he erected a mining monument across from his veterinary clinic and home out of respect to the founding miners of Elliot Lake. Currently, he was Chair of the Police Board and worked with the Camp Thompson Committee to keep that building current. Dennis was passionate about Northern Ontario. He was a passionate fisherman, hunter, canoeist, and kayaker. He organized fund raising events for Ducks Unlimited and was dedicated to the Elk Restoration project in the north. Dennis was loved and will be sadly missed. Friends and family celebrated his life on Saturday July 21 at his home.
