With great sorrow we say goodbye to Carl Alexander Rauhala, beloved husband of Judy (predeceased), cherished father of Daryl and Kim (Erica), much loved Pappa to Avery and Ashton, irreplaceable friend to Julie Nelson,  adored son of Esko and Iona Rauhala (predeceased),  dear brother to Marion Ross (Bob, predeceased), Joseph Rauhala and Ann Rauhala (Lorne Slotnick) and dear uncle and in-law to the Kiviaho, Lapierre, Gee, Chang, Van Clieaf, Pearson, Slotnick, Brown, Herperger and  Girouard families.  Friend to numerous cousins in the extended Rauhala family and to many Atikameksheng residents.

Carl lived a large, loving life in a small town.  He grew up and settled in Waters Township (Walden), where he was a popular teacher and tennis & hockey coach at Lively District Secondary for more than 25 years. He was a top-scoring right-winger at Copper Cliff High and an award-winning math scholar at Laurentian and Carleton universities. He and Judy Lapierre married in 1970, eventually making their home at Black Lake. Carl was in perpetual motion, fishing, hunting, sledding and piloting a bush plane as a young man and, even at age 76, either cutting wood, biking, picking blueberries, playing hockey or tennis every day.

Carl was fun. Wherever he went, there was a party.  With irrepressible energy and a quick sense of humour, he organized countless social events.  He gave everything he could to make Judy’s life easier, to provide for his children and granddaughters and to help those who loved him. He was no saint: he enjoyed his light beer and told racy stories. But he was kind and generous. Every little kid got gifts of chocolate bars and every sad soul got offered a drink and a joke. Remember Rule #103.

At Carl’s request there will be no service.  Arrangements for a Celebration of Life are being considered for the weekend of July 22nd, 2023.

In lieu of flowers please consider the Polycystic Kidney Foundation of Canada
