REID, John - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear father John Reid. After a courageous battle with cancer, he has been called home to be with his wife Theresa (nee Deon) and children Junior (wife Betty Lou), Barbara Morel (husband Ray), Gregory and David. Beloved common law partner to Odile Noyes. Beloved husband of the late Theresa Reid. He leaves behind his children Kathleen Doucette (husband Alfred) of Edmonton, Judy Reid (partner Joe Luetge), Debby Loiselle (husband Conrad), Mark Reid (wife Laura), Brenda Downie (husband Eric), Donna of Toronto, Nancy Rewega (husband Jerry), Keith (wife Anne), Patsy of Mississauga, and Cindy Pearson (husband Pete). Loving grandfather to 29 grandchildren, great grandfather to 24 and great great grandfather to 1. Loving son of the late Clarence Reid and the late Anastasia (Bulger). Dear brother of the late Morris (wife Eleanor), the late Nora, the late Alban (wife Yvonne), Mark, Kay and Austin. John Reid was born in Hope River, PEI where he grew up on a farm with his family. He left home at 18 to join the army and was stationed in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, before being discharged due to an injury. He worked at the shipyards in Pictou, Nova Scotia where he met the love of his life, Theresa. They were married at Pomquet Church in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. John came to Sudbury in 1943 to seek work at INCO. He enjoyed a 36 year career as a labourer, Feeder boss, underground driller, stope boss and finally transportation. John enjoyed countless years of camping in the big blue bus at Mine Mill campsite, hosting large family get-togethers. He excelled at lawn darts and loved to swim. He had a talent for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica while foot stompin'. He spent many winters in Florida. You could always find John tinkering in his garage, happy among his many treasures. John's quick wit, kind heart, humorous nature, and sweet smile will not soon be forgotten. Forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Regional Cancer Program would be appreciated. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in Holy Redeemer Church 1887 Bancroft Dr., Sudbury Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 at 11am. Interment in the Civic Cemetery.
