Born in Sudbury May 12,1934, Gerald grew up in Falconbridge within his large family of 14. Cherished husband for 65 years of Margaret (Mihaly), beloved father of Joseph (Lisa Marafioti) and Joanne Rhude. Brother of Lou (Florence Zettler), Dorothy (Duncan Mcrae), Ernie, Jim (Maxine), John (Margaret Heini), Art (Fran), Warren (Marion McKee), Clarel (Sally Phipps), all deceased, Harold (Helen Soroka), Ron (Nellie Frankovic - deceased) (Anne Bedek), Shirley - deceased (Joe Sharp).

Gerald worked all his life for Falconbridge Nickel Mines - apprenticing as a youth and working till retirement. His early years were spent hunting and fishing with Harold and lifelong friends Jim Kirwan and George McKee. Sharp shooting events in Ottawa saw him a national winner with medals to show. Private flying lessons in North Bay with friend Alec MacDonald led to his pilot's license and introduction to Margaret, who became his lifelong partner. A house built voluntarily with the help of friends in Falconbridge was home for 20 years. The cottage at Mindemoya, Manitoulin lsland, was second home where Gerald, the fisher and hunter, became an avid gardener. Bonfires, corn roasts, parties celebrating life's large events provided joyous times here.

Gerry was a quiet, solid, sometimes stubborn, independent person with an unbelievable sharp sense of humour. His independent personality lay behind his ability to turn his hand it seemed to anything and everything - a true Mr. Fixit. He struggled with asbestos related health problems, which became his final undoing.

At his insistence, there will be no official services. His family asks, if he should come to mind, to send a brief silent prayer in memory.

Gerald's family wish to extend deepest thanks and appreciation to all the staff at the Clarion site as well as Health Sciences North. God bless you all - you will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers donations to Health Sciences North Foundation or Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com
