Celebrating the life of:
Pierre "Pete" Richard Rivers
Born in Sudbury, ON June 28th 1965 - Nov 17th 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Pierre "Pete" Rivers. Pete was a loving husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, and a son. His memory will live on through his wife Carmen, his son Scott (Carolyn), his daughter Aimee (Andre) and his grandchildren Tristan, Russel, Lachlan, and Kennedy. He will be missed by his parents Richard and Lillian Rivers along with his brothers Ren (Janice) and Ryan (Emily). He was predeceased by his birth mother Monette Lafontaine (Donald). Many other beloved family members, friends and co-workers will undoubtedly mourn this loss as well. Pete grew up in Garson, ON where he spent most of his time playing sports, most notably, hockey where he was an accomplished Goalie. He was a passionate Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Bears fan. He loved music and would fall asleep every night listening to The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Jim Croce, etc.

Pete dedicated his life to helping people with mental illness. He was a Supportive independent Living (SIL) worker with the Mental Health and Addictions Program at Health Sciences North. He passed away on his way to visit a client. Pete was a selfless person who had a client-centered approach and was always advocating on behalf of his coworkers and clients. He was viewed as a source of comfort and stability amongst his peers and he was extremely proud of that.

Above all, Pete was a family man. What made him happiest was spending time with his kids and grandkids. He often reminisced about the times his father Richard spent with him playing sports. He held his father in the highest regard and viewed him as a hero. Pete always reminded us of how lucky he was to marry his best friend Carmen. Together, they tackled life's challenges with humour, joy and mutual adoration. He met Carm on New Years' Eve in 1985 and they have been inseparable ever since. He will be missed for his kindness, compassion, and his ability to make others feel special.
