SALEM, Donna

March 21, 2011 64

SALEM, Donna Frances (nee McDonald) - In Loving Memory Of Donna Frances Salem (nee McDonald). It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of such a remarkable lady on Friday March 18th, at the young age of 64 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Donna leaves behind a rich legacy of love, a wealth of teachings and a family truly blessed to have been hers. Beloved wife, partner and best friend for 43 years to Dennis Salem. Loving mom/ma to Jennifer (Mitchell Medina) and Brent (Samantha Salem). Cherished Nana and #1 fan of Emily, Sydney, Alyssa, Brandon & Taylor. Treasured big sister of Gail (Richard Vargo). Special aunt to Tricia & Jamie Vargo, and great-aunt to Owen & Ella Weir. Remarkable friend to Leslie Stanford (Fred, Kristin and Michael). Predeceased by her parents Florence (nee Barless) and Francis McDonald. Through her multiple careers as a Mom, Wife, Teacher and Education Manager at Science North, Donna always left her mark as a compassionate woman willing to do anything for others. After retiring in 1998 Donna turned her passions to her favourite three g’s - grandchildren, golf and gardening. Donna always found time for family and friends, was a fixture at all dance competitions and hockey games and could always manage to squeeze in a round of golf. Donna’s latent talent for jewelry making made her very busy in her later years filling orders, taking classes and always experimenting with beautiful new designs. Donna was happiest when spending time with her family and friends and even through her illness always kept up with- and offered an opinion on -what was going on in everyone’s lives. Her passing will be felt by many for years to come. Special thanks go out from the family to the oncology nurses on the 4th floor, Dr. Gill and Dr. Knight for the outstanding and compassionate care she received from all. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation. Memorial Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, Saturday March 26th, 2011; 1pm.
