SAVARD, Joseph Ernest (Ernie) - In Loving Memory of Joseph Ernest “Ernie“ Savard, 89 years, Friday, October 28th, 2011 at Finlandia Village, Sudbury. Beloved husband of Marion (Teahan) Savard predeceased 2003. Loving father of Gerald Savard (wife Linda), Jeannette Kaminski (husband George), Lorraine Castonguay (husband Marcel), Marc Savard (wife Jeanne). Cherished grandfather of Paul St. Marseille, Richard St. Marseille (wife Colleen), Justin Castonguay, Sylvie Savard, Jacob Savard, Emma Savard and great grandchildren Kaili and Aiden St. Marseille. Dear son of Angeline (Guay) and Zephirin Savard both predeceased. Dear brother of Wilfrid Savard and predeceased by Eddie Guay, Mickey Barry, Anne Clark and Ida Hubbard. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews. A well respected Sudbury businessman, Ernie was an outstanding Sudburian and Canadian. He led by example in living his faith and building community and relationship. A devout Roman Catholic he attended St. Patrick's Church where he actively participated in the parish ministries and proud 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He pursed a “just society“ in making a difference in local politics having been an alderman and school trustee and champion for many worthy community causes. He was proud of his legacy in our community which included chair of the Barbershop Singers Toy Drive, director of the Children's Aid Society, Lockerby Playground Association, CNIB and Cancer Society. Ernie was instrumental in the restoration and expansion of the Grotto. He led the Friends of Grotto for many years providing spiritual leadership and fiscal stewardship. Ernie embodied the lessons taught by Jesus as a good Samaritan and shepherd to all he met. The light if his life will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church 39 Walford Rd., Sudbury Monday, October 31st, 2011 at 10 a.m. Interment in the family plot at the Civic Cemetery. Prayers at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Donations to the Friends of the Grotto or Inner City Home would be appreciated. (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9 p.m. Sunday).
