SHEILDS Darrel A. - In Loving Memory of Darrel A. Shields 82 years Peacefully Wednesday June 13, 2012 at Health Sciences North to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Beloved husband of Helene (Hurtubise) Shields predeceased 1996, and Marge (Van Exan) Shields. Loving father of Rachel Cull (husband Jerry), James (wife Andrea-Lynne), Michele Carriere (husband Marc), Marcy Craig (husband Ken); stepchildren Dan Van Exan (wife Suzanne), Robin Van Exan (wife Jean), Cheryl Gunaratnum (husband Suresh), Tammi Kitching (husband Mark). Cherished grandfather/poppa of Alyssa, Brendan, Shaelagh, Noah, Adrian, Daniele, Alex, Isabelle, Nicholas, Jaclyn, Rochelle, Nathan, Tammy, Moses, Elisha, Mira, Zoe and Rochelle. Dear son of John Alexander and Eva (Collins) Shields predeceased. Dear brother of Betty Blackman (husband Jack) and David (wife Susan). Sadly missed by nieces and nephews. A longtime and well respected Copper Resident Darrel worked at the INCO Transportation Department retiring in 1985 with 35 years service. An ordained Baptist minister he had pastored at Grace Baptist Church (Lavigne), Azilda Bible Chapel and Lively Baptist Church, and more recently became a member of St. Luke’s United Church. He was an avid Ottawa Senators Hockey fan. Darrel will be remembered as a real people person who lived the lessons of Jesus by being a Good Samaritan and Good Shepherd to all he met. His twinkling eyes and wonderful smile brought encouragement and happiness to family and friends. Darrel can echo the words of St. Paul “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course I have kept the faith.” God bless you Darrel. Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St. Sudbury. (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9 p.m. Monday and after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday). Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation with interment in the family plot at Beachburg, ON. A Masonic service will be held 7 p.m. Monday under the auspices of Sudbury Lodge #658 AF & AM. In leiu of flowers donations to the St. Luke’s United Church, L’Arche Sudbury or Warmhearts Palliative Care would be appreciated.
