SKORATKO, Anna

July 9, 2012 86

SKORATKO, Anna - It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Anna Skoratko (maiden name Guzylak) at the St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto on July 6th, 2012. Beloved wife to the late Mychaelo Skoratko for 58 years. Loving mother of Bob of Calgary and Alice Ferron (Claude) of Oakville. Cherished grandmother of Katherine, Mark, Stephen and Laura. Anna was born on April 7th, 1926 in Wyslik, Poland to parents Pantaleon and Anna. She is survived by her sisters Fenna, Paraska, and Maria. Her brothers Simco, Mychaelo and Ivan are predeceased. Anna left her home village for Germany where she worked as a housekeeper. She then moved to England in 1948 where she worked in a textile factory. While there, she met her future husband who later asked her to come to Canada in 1952. They were married in Sudbury, Ontario in 1953 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Life-long family friends Stefan and Kataryna Bilyj helped them establish their lives in Sudbury. Their son, Walter Bilyj, and Anna's son-in-law Claude Ferron were always there to help. Active in the Ukrainian-Canadian community, she was involved in many organizations including the Women's League, her church, and CYM. She had a passion for cooking and her talents were evident in her job as head cook at the President Hotel for many years. In the summer months she enjoyed her garden. She loved large family gatherings with many relatives around her. Anna sponsored many family members and helped them come to Canada. In 1972, her niece, Marika Petryszyn (Dziadosz) became part of the family and Anna was like a mother to her. Her faith in God and the power of prayer sustained her during the final years of declining health. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace. Resting at the JACKSON and BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave, Sudbury Wednesday, July 11th, 2102 at 10:30am.
