SLOAN, Lorenzo (Larry) - In loving memory of Lorenzo (Larry) Sloan in his 99th year who passed peacefully at Extendicare York on Saturday, November 12th, 2011. Married for 67 years to Clarice Sloan who predeceased him on Christmas Day 2001. He was the last surviving child of Micky and Bridget (Rodgers) Sloan. Predeceased by his brothers Charlie, Gerald, Edmund, Freddy, Emerson and Hector and by sisters Annie Dolihan, Mildred Perrault, Pearl Patterson, Violet Bailey and Evelyn Hearty. He is survived by his brother-in-law Patrick Darcy of Ottawa. Loving father to his sons Frank (Sandra) of Woodstock, John (Ann) of Chesterville and his daughter Diane (Norman) Pagan of Sudbury. He was the loving grandfather of John Sloan (Margaret) of London, Mary McKee (Jim) of London, Patrick Sloan (Lisa) of Woodstock, Brian Pagan (Shannon) of Orleans, Maureen McLelland (Stephen) of Sudbury, Michael Pagan (Catherine) of Toronto and Ken Pagan (Cathy) of North Bay. He was great- grandfather of thirteen. Born in Vinton, Quebec in 1913, he went to Timmins during the Depression to work at the Hollinger Gold Mine, starting as a labourer and retiring as Mine Superintendent. In his younger days he was an accomplished ball player and an eight-ender curler. A gentle, quiet man with a great sense of humour, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and playing euchre. He won the euchre tournament at Extendicare York at the age of 98. He was an Honourary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6074. The family would like to thank Dr. Sawkiw, Dr. Kuchtaruk, the Emergency Outreach department and the staff at Extendicare York for their kindness and diligent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Extendicare York Residents' Council or to a charity of your choice. Resting at the JACKSON and BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, on Tuesday, November 15th from 2-5 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 39 Walford Road, Sudbury, on Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 at 10am. Interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery, Sudbury.
