STEFANYK, Mykala “Nick“ - (December 12th, 1926 - February 14th, 2013) Passed away peacefully in his 87th year at Pioneer Manor, Sudbury. Mykala is survived by his loving wife Hilda Stefanyk, his step- son Peter Knoblauch, daughter in law Diane, grandchildren Steven and Michael- John, cousins in London and nieces and nephews in Ukraine. Mykala was born on December 12th, 1926 in Yawarak, Ukraine to Maraysha (Spurtza) and Bartholomy Stefanyk. He was the third eldest son of the family; predeceased by his three brothers and three sisters. As a young boy, Mykala was forced to leave his family to serve in the war, never to return home. In the years following, Mykala endured the unfavorable working conditions as a laborer in the Belgium coal mines. In 1951 Mykala immigrated to Canada in pursuit of a better life and was employed by INCO up until his retirement. Mykala was a prominent seasonal resident of the Killarney Marina where he enjoyed his passion for boating, fishing and socializing with the locals. “Nick“ will always be remembered of his generosity, commitment to his family and his willingness to provide a helping hand. Visitation at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury (2-5 p.m. Sunday only with Panakhyda at 3 p.m. Sunday). Mykala was a man of faith. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave., Sudbury on Monday, February 18th, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment in the Civic Cemetery.
