Steklasa, Frances (née Kmetic). An enormously positive, generous and nurturing spirit has slipped from the lives of our family, with the passing of Frances Steklasa on April 27. Predeceased by her loving husband Frank (in 1982), parents Anton and Frances (Ivsek) Kmetic, and several brothers and sisters in Slovenia. Loving mother of sons Robert (Linda) and Mark (Marilyn) and daughter Helen Thompson (Ron). Cherished grandma of Adrienne and Mark. Dear sister of Ludvik Kmetic and Milka Retelj of Slovenia and predeceased by brothers and sisters Anton Kmetic, France Kmetic, Ivan Kmetic, Marija Ljubic, Ana Hraster and Rozalija Fabian.. Her family was her treasure and Frances was guided and nurtured through good times and bad by her deep religious faith and spirituality. She was a combination of parent, teacher and best friend to all members of her family and enjoyed her exceptionally close relationship with grandchildren Adrienne and Mark. Frances lived her life well and died well, surrounded and comforted by her family and the prayers and blessings of Father Vince of St. Alexander’s parish. Born in Slovenia on October 21, 1921, Frances emigrated to Canada in 1948, marrying Frank Steklasa later that year at St. Joseph’s Church in Chelmsford. A resident of Azilda for more than 60 years, Frances was an elder of St. Alexander’s parish, serving as past president of the CWL. Her hobbies included sewing and reading, growing beautiful plants and trees in her home, gardening, and participating in parish bible study sessions.
