TARNOPOLSKY, Eugene (Gene) - Peacefully passed away at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Palliative Care on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the age of 84 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Yvette (Charette) Tarnopolsky of Sudbury. Son of the late Mary (Surma) and Harry Tarnopolsky of Toki, Ukraine. Loving father of Gerry (Natalie Falcioni), Dennis (Diane) and Ron all of Sudbury. Sadly missed by his grandsons Jason (Heather) Tarnopolsky and Darryl (friend Claudia) Lavigueur of Sudbury. Dear brother of Jennie (late Joe Bodnarchuk) of Melford, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by Walter (late Joanne) Tarnopolsky. Remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Born in 1926 in Kiev, Ukraine in a farming community, Gene immigrated to Gronlid, Saskatchewan in 1930. He moved to Sudbury in 1945 and worked at INCO at Garson Mine. Gene's (Pete) passion was the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved their camp on Onaping Lake. His winter getaways began in 1981 until 1993, where he and Yvette would escape to Indian Rock Shores Trailer Park in Florida. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the HRSRH 7th Floor Nursing Staff and the 4th Floor Palliative Care Team, CCAC, Bayshore and the Red Cross. A very special thank you to CCAC's Trish Lafantaisie, Bayshore's Cynthia, RN & Julie, PSW, HRSRH's Angèle & Debbie Baston, RN's and Drs. Tara Moskalyk, Nathalie Slayney, Caroline Mailloux, Linda Tenhunen and R. Shivakumar. Our community is extremely fortunate to have such devoted and caring Health Care Professionals. Thank you for all of your prayers Father Tremblay and Hospital Chaplain Carmen Brlé. As per Gene's wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
