TAYLOR, William

February 21, 2012 92

TAYLOR, William L.W. - February 6, 1920 - February 10, 2012 Passed away peacefully in his sleep with daughters, Leslie and Wendy by his side. Bill is predeceased by his wife Peggy (nee Neal) and sister Wendy (Cole). He is survived by his sisters Connie (Taylor) and Anne (Dobell). Born in Montreal, Bill was schooled at Lower Canada College and McGill University where he obtained a B.Eng. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant Cdr. on three Castle Class corvettes patrolling the North Atlantic. After the war, he returned to McGill to obtain a M.Sc. Bill met his beloved Peggy at a McGill dance and they married soon after graduation. His work as an exploration geologist took them to Peru, Newfoundland and the Dominican Republic before they finally settled in Falconbridge, Ontario. After a long and successful career with Falconbridge Nickel Mines, Bill and Peg sold their cottage at Windy Lake and retired in Duncan, B.C. In retirement, they enjoyed many wonderful trips with family and friends, travelling back East every September to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Bill was an avid golfer, curler and bridge player and was a member of the Cowichan GCC. He continued to golf there after moving to Victoria, sharing the Malahat commute three times weekly with his golfing buddies. Bill began producing intricate chip carvings when he could no longer golf, and gave gifts of his work to many friends. His greatest pleasure was his involvement with the caring congregation of St. David-By- The-Sea, and for many years his bass voice was heard each Sunday in the church choir. Bill enjoyed his Thursday bridge club until the very end. He was always pleased if he was able to bring home the afternoon winnings from his friendly group. A service was held on Thursday, February 16th, at 3 p.m. at St. David-By-The-Sea, in Cordova Bay. Donations in Bill's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
