God’s Angels escorted Mildred Edna Thomas to her Lord on Sunday morning, December 8, 2013. We will greatly miss our Mom, Gram, Nannie, Aunt, Great-Gramma, sister, neighbour and friend, but will forever feel her loving presence and guidance in our lives. Millie was born in Ottawa on March 8, 1919, to Howard and Catherine Deavy (Hume). In 1927, the family, including brother George (predeceased), and sister, Marion Minns Morris (Mississauga), came to Capreol where Millie remained all her life. She was the beloved wife of Balfour Thomas (predeceased 1982) whom she married in Capreol in 1938. Mom was proud of her children and their families; Balfour (Judy Birmingham), Sudbury, Clayton “Buddy” (predeceased), Marlene Bevilacqua (Ezio, predeceased), and Stewart (Sharon), both of Capreol, and Stanley (Henriette McHattie), Sudbury; Grandchildren: Janet Thomas, Lynn Thomas (Mel), Greg Thomas (Maggie), Mike Bevilacqua, Cathie Anzil (Frank), Andrea Helgesen (Jan), Craig Thomas (Susan), & Paula Marshall (BJ), Tyler Thomas (Cyana) and Stephanie Arena (Paul), honourary grandson James McHattie; Great-Grandchildren: Morina & Frankie Anzil, Erik & Eva Helgesen, Isla and Emmerson Thomas, and Sophie Marshall. Mom’s special pleasure of late was watching pre-bedtime “dance parties” performed in her honour by the littlest great-grandchildren and their moms. She enjoyed reading, crosswords and suduko, knitting and crocheting, and many TV sports. Millie was a life member of Vermillion Rebekah Lodge #289, Capreol, Past Noble Grand, Past District Deputy President, and recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry. She was a life member of UCW at her church. “Auntie Millie” was fond of her large but close extended family, and kept track of Thomases, Deavys, Minnses, and Mackies who returned her affection with visits, cards, and phone calls. Mom’s favourite place was “The Lake” where our best gatherings occurred. “Faithful” best describes our Mom: first and foremost to her God, family, her church, community, friends and neighbours. We were so blessed to have this loving, intelligent woman in our lives to inspire us to do our best, to always do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and to speak kindly both to others and of others. We are confident that our Mom has already heard her Lord’s welcoming greeting, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Memorial Service at Trinity United Church, Capreol at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013. Visitation from 10:00 to time of service. Donations to Trinity United Church or the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre would be appreciated. Interment of ashes at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
