Vaillancourt, Bernard (1941-2023)
La famille annonce avec grande tristesse son décès à Sudbury, le 18 janvier 2023 à l’âge de 81 ans. Époux bien-aimé de son amour d’adolescence avec qui il a passé 61 merveilleuses années, Claudette, née Marcotte. Fils de feu Hervé et de feu Annette (née Simard) Vaillancourt-Gervais. Cher gendre de feu Horace et feu Agnès (née Beaulieu) Marcotte. Père bien aimé de feu Jean-Marc (Elaine Witzke, Carol-Ann Trapasso-Gervais), Anne Castonguay (Denis), et Rachel Sookoo (Anthony). Pépère adoré de Colin (Jade Bishop) et Alex Castonguay, Elizabeth Vaillancourt (Dustin Laurin) et Nathan, Leah et Andrew Sookoo ainsi qu’arrière-grand-pépère de Ella, Emmett et Renelle. Prédécédé par ses soeurs Huguette Beaulieu (feu Victor), Hélène Hull (George) et son frère Jean-Claude (May Boivin). Il est survécu par son frère Gilles Gervais (Cathy Crossan). Il manquera également à plusieurs demi-frères, demi-sœurs, beaux-frères, belles-sœurs, nièces et neveux.
Bernard était reconnu pour sa grande patience et son dévouement auprès de sa famille. Ses enfants et petits-enfants se souviendront des nombreuses heures qu’il passait à jouer avec eux soit avec leurs jouets, soit aux cartes et aux jeux de société. Il était gérant de Goodyear Sudbury et on se souviendra de lui comme Instructeur et Pompier volontaire pendant plus de 30 ans pour la Ville de Rayside-Balfour. La musique et la danse ont toujours eu une place spéciale pour lui et malgré son Alzheimer, il se souvenait de tous les mots de ses chansons favorites. Il aimait danser avec son amour, Claudette, avec qui il aimait faire du camping les étés et voyager en Floride les hivers.
La famille tient à remercier Louise, Lyn, Debbie et tout le personnel du 2e plancher à Extendicare York, ainsi que les infirmières et le personnel à Horizon Santé-Nord pour les merveilleux soins mais plus encore pour leur compassion. Selon les souhaits de la famille, une Célébration de vie aura lieu au printemps. Que vos témoignages de condoléances se traduisent en dons à la Société Alzheimer ou l’Association du Diabète de Sudbury. Les arrangements sont confiés à Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury.

The family announces with great sorrow his passing in Sudbury, on January 18, 2023, at the age of 81 years. Beloved husband to his soul mate since their adolescence and the love of his life, Claudette née Marcotte. Son of late Hervé and late Annette (née Simard) Vaillancourt-Gervais. Dear son-in-law to late Horace and late Agnès (née Beaulieu) Marcotte. Loving father of late Jean-Marc (Elaine Witzke, Carol-Ann Trapasso-Gervais), Anne Castonguay (Denis) and Rachel Sookoo (Anthony). Dearest Pépère to Colin (Jade Bishop) and Alex Castonguay, Elizabeth Vaillancourt (Dustin Laurin), Nathan, Leah and Andrew Sookoo as well as great-grandfather to Ella, Emmett, and Renelle. Predeceased by his sisters Huguette (late Victor) Beaulieu and Hélène (George) Hull as well as by his brother Jean-Claude (May Boivin). He is survived by his brother Gilles Gervais (Cathy Crossan). He will be greatly missed by many stepbrothers, stepsisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Bernard was best known for his huge patience and devotion to his family. His kids and grandkids will remember fondly the time he took to set-up their toys, play with them, and show them how to play cards and numerous board games. He was the Manager of Goodyear Sudbury but was most proud of the
more than 30 years of service as an Instructor and Volunteer Firefighter for the town of Rayside-Balfour. Music and dance were an important part of his life and even through his Alzheimer, he remembered the words of his most favorite songs. He loved dancing with the love of his life, Claudette, with whom he spent his summers camping and his winters in Florida.
The family would like to thank Louise, Lyn, Debbie, and the staff on the 2nd floor at Extendicare York, as well as nurses and staff at Health Sciences North for the marvelous care he received but first and foremost for their compassion. a Celebration of Life will be held on May 7th from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Northbury Hotel & Conference Center, 50 Brady St, Sudbury, ON. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Sudbury Diabetes Association. Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury.
