It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giovannina (Nina) Verrilli, who died peacefully with family by her side on July 31st, 2021 at the age of 90.

Dear daughter of Bartolomeo (Alberto) Riccio and Lucia Giannini Riccio (both predeceased).  Beloved wife of Remo Verrilli, predeceased 1986, loving mother of Daniel (Linda) Verrilli, Lucy (Maurizio) Visentin, and Leo (Sue) Verrilli. Cherished Nonna of Alessio (Heather), Cassandra, Matthew, Mark (Jenna), Christopher, and recent great grandmother (Bisnonna) of Lucas Visentin. Survived by her loving sister and best friend Grazia (Flavio) (predeceased), loving brother and best friend, Fedele (Maria Carla), loving sister, Antonietta (Michele) (both predeceased), and brother, Leonardo (predeceased). Survived by her loving brother-in-law, Rocco, and loving sister-in-law, Carmela. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, her friends, and her neighbours. Nina emigrated to Sudbury from Italy in 1953 where she married her soulmate, Remo, and raised their three children.

She enjoyed her new life in Canada and was extremely proud of her Canadian citizenship, attending annual Canada Day ceremonies and festivities.            Nina loved and adored her family – they were her pride and joy. She enjoyed cooking and sharing delicious meals with her family, loved to socialize with her many friends, and she walked daily, regardless of weather conditions, to New Sudbury Shopping Centre, “her mall” and second home. Nina was an exceptional cook, a gracious dancer, and an excellent seamstress.  Nina was a life member of the Caruso Club Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed attending their annual convention trips and volunteered to make pasta and gnocchi for the club.

She proudly celebrated her Italian heritage. She was a devout Catholic who attended St. Andrew the Apostle Church and belonged to the parish CWL.  Nina was extremely independent, feisty, and will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, and especially for her sense of humour and infectious laugh. Nina was a people person who made friends everywhere she went. She will be forever missed by all who knew her and will never be forgotten. The family thanks the staff at Extendicare York and greatly appreciate the care and compassion extended to Nina while a resident on the 6th floor, especially in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
