WALSH, Mildred Mona (nee Cooke) - In loving memory of Mildred Mona Walsh (nee Cooke) in her 86th year, who was born in Hudson, Quebec on December 31st, 1924. Milly died on February 11th, 2011 in her home in Hanmer Ontario where she had lived for the past 13 years. Former wife of Frank Walsh of Piltown, Kilkenny, Ireland (deceased 2001). She married in Montreal in 1954 and had a home in Beaconfield, Quebec. The family moved to London, England in 1960. She was the mother of Naomi, grandmother of Brendan and Arthur and mother-in-law to Peter Sherlock- Hubbard. Milly was the daughter of Arthur Stanley Cooke, former grounds keeper at the Whitlock Golf Course, in Hudson, Quebec. Her mother was Elsie Margaret Kenny. Both parents were born in England and came to Canada in 1910 and 1911 respectively. She was a sister to Walter, Nora (Rogers), Doris (Widdison), Stanley, Sidney, Reginald, John, James and Herbert all predeceased. Known for her beautiful red hair and her style in clothes, Milly liked to be busy. She played golf and loved to be “out and about“. Formerly a resident of Toronto, Milly worked for the Ministry of Tourism for the Ontario Provincial Government, as a secretary from 1968 to 1988. In her retirement years she completed dozens of beautiful paintings and published a biography with her friend John Callan called WE ARE NOT DEAD YET about her uncle Bert Cooke and his WW1 experiences. After studying the Bible for a few years, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1997. Many thanks to the good friends who visited regularly, like the Hubbard family from Parry Sound, Judy, Lucille, Brenda and Ida. Thanks also to those who often wrote during the last few years after her stroke, like Linda Atkinson, our cousin in England, Anya, Jane and Violet. Thanks also to the personal support workers who helped care for her at home, like Delisca, Cecile, Paula, Dawn, Francine and Leannah. She had a faith in Jehovah's promise of a “new heavens and a new Earth“ (2 Peter 3:13) She believed in God's promise of a time when “He would wipe every tear from our eyes“ (Revelation 21:3,4). She trusted in the value of Christ Jesus' ransom sacrifice. We look forward to being united here on earth in the resurrection (John 11:25). Cremation. No services. Arrangements entrusted to the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME. To light a memorial candle, flowers, donations or messages of condolences available on-line at www.lougheed.org
