Whiting, Vincent (Vince)

In loving memory of Vincent (Vince) Francis Whiting, 75 years old, who passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Health Sciences North held close by his children and listening to the Rankins.

Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton Island to the late Vincent and Veronica Whiting (née McPhee) Vince had 4 siblings, Vernon (predeceased) Valerie, Vaughn and Victor (predeceased). Vince left Cape Breton at an early age to settle in Sudbury, Ontario but down home always kept a piece of his heart. He was the proud father of Lana Jeanveau (Dan) and Lonnie Whiting (Jacquie) and loving grandfather (Papa) to Kayleigh Jeanveau, Autumn Whiting and Hunter Whiting. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Alice who continued to hold a place in his heart after many years.

During his working years he was a millwright at INCO and in retirement loved adventuring with his best friend Scooter who crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago. He was a voracious reader and he was happiest with a cup of tea and a book in his hand although sharing a good spread of lobster and other seafood would fill him with joy and took a close second in the happiness department.

Vince was a unique man (a bit of an understatement to those who knew him), inquisitive, generous and kind and it was ingrained in him to help anyone he could if they needed it. He also thoroughly enjoyed a good debate and didn’t hesitate to share his opinions with family and friends.

It’s never easy to say goodbye dad but we take comfort in knowing that wherever you are now you’re doing what you want on your own terms which is how you lived your life. Your legacy lives on in your children and grandchildren.

His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses from Health Sciences North’s CVT ICU for their kind and compassionate care of him during his hospitalization and in his final days.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no service and Vince will be cremated with interment in Cape Breton at a later date.
