WIERRE, Antti

May 26, 2011 81

WIERRE, Antti - In Loving Memory of Antti Wierre, passed away peacefully on May 24th at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 81, with daughters, Sonya and Sirkka at his side. Antti (Vierre) was born in Kuortane, Finland on August 12, 1929 and immigrated to Canada when he was 19 years old. He was predeceased by his sister, Suzanna and his brother Erkki. He married Taimi Holla- Ristimaki in 1959 and created a family with her son Ken Ristimaki (wife Cheryl) in Sudbury. Soon he added six daughters and later, sons-in-law: Sheila (husband George Arnold), Susan (husband Brandon Balogh), Sirkka (husband Dan St. Georges), Shirley Grier, Sonya (husband Ray) and Sandra. Then came many grandchildren Jessica (husband Guy Demore), Jayda, and Janel St. Georges; Bradley Grier; Scott and Melissa Minor; Audrey and Gwyneth Balogh; and Lauren and Kristen Arnold, Tom, Kenny Jr.(wife Aujke) and Leif (wife Renee) Ristimaki and great grandchildren Kiefer, Mavrick and Woeke. Antti loved singing, playing music, camping and being with family. He was an excellent accordion player and sang with the Sudbury Finnish Male Choir for over 50 years. Antti was very proud of Ken, and his six daughters and was very sad when their mother, Taimi passed at the young age of 59. He never remarried but he and his friend and partner for over 20 years, Mary Carter were able to enjoy dancing for many years after. He was well looked after by the staff at the Finlandia Nursing Home, as his need for care increased with his Parkinson's condition. We will always remember Pappa, laughing so hard, to his own jokes with those smiling, sparkling, happy blue eyes. Funeral service to be held at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Sudbury on Friday, May 27th, 2011 at 1 PM. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson's society would be appreciated. (Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM and after 11 AM Friday).
