WOLCHUK, Jacob David “Jack“ - Born May 8th, 1924, died February 5th, 2012, peacefully at the Extendicare York, Sudbury. Born at Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba to John Dmitro and Ellen Margaret Wolczuk (predeceased). He was the youngest of 6 children all predeceased. Husband of Elizabeth Grace Wolchuk predeceased 2004. Father of Katherine LaHay (Faye), Ellen Pagnutti (Anthony), Jacqueline Hodgins and father in law to Peter LaHay. Favourite brother in law of George Johnson. Beloved Grandfather to Paul (Jolene), Karen (Rob), Michael (Stacie), David (predeceased), Jennifer, Arthur (Cassandra), Richard (Elizabeth). Loving Great Grandfather of Adam, Kyle, Mason, Shayla, Dylan, Aiden, Eanna, Nicholas (predeceased), Zachary and John Jacob. Jack joined the army where he followed his older brother overseas. When he returned to Canada after the war, he married his high school sweetheart and went to work for INCO. Except for a brief return to Winnipeg, Jack and Betty made Sudbury their home. Dad had many interests and hobbies including stamp and coin collecting, camping and fishing, but what stood out the most was his mail order lapidary business and intense passion for obtaining a basic service pension for all veterans. He and Mom spent long hours writing letters and enlisting help from veterans across the country. Jack spent the last 3 years living at Extendicare York, where he received excellent care from a caring staff. He will be missed by anyone who was lucky enough to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Extendicare York Residents Council would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, JACKSON and BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at 2pm. Friends may gather in the chapel after 1:45pm Saturday.
