Osterburg) in East Germany, Gertrude has lived through many decades of change. Gertrude left her homeland in Germany with her two daughters ages 4 and 8 to brave a new life in Canada and reunite with the love of her life, Lucjan who had set voyage a year prior. Gertrude was a devoted mother and homemaker raising her children and her grandchildren. Gertrude took great pride in all her children and their families, teaching them about their heritage and sharing her cooking skills. Gertrude’s day started with a freshly starched apron, followed by a full day of cooking, baking, pickling and preserving; there was always room for one more at Gertrude’s table, her warm hospitality was felt by all. Gertrude had visited with her siblings and parents rekindling the relationship she had left behind so many years ago. The highlight of her dedication to family was a trip to her homeland (Germany) on her 80th birthday, shared with her children. Gertrude’s spirit and love will continue to guide her family, as she lives on in each of their hearts. Mom, we thank you for your courage, strength and positive attitude in making our journey through life with you that much easier. You will always be lovingly remembered. The family wishes to thank her nurses, personal care givers and Dr. St. Martin, at Pioneer Manor for their compassionate and loving care. Gertrude spent six wonderful years at the Manor and had a supporting extended family in York/Park Place. “Gerty” you are one in a million, as the staff would say. Gertrude will always be remembered for her loving and warm “Smile”, her little wave and her “Thank You”! Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury.
