ZYMA, William (Bill) - With heavy heart we announce the passing of William (Bill) Zyma, after a courageous battle with cancer, on the 20th of May 2012, at the age of 82, with his loving wife of 58 years, Roberta (Berardo), at his side. He also leaves behind to mourn, his sons, Robert of Sudbury, Bill, wife Charlene, of Sudbury, John of Brighton, Ontario and Mike, wife Kim, of West Palm Beach, Florida and one daughter Barbara Chartrand of Sault Ste. Marie. Born in 1930, and raised in Creighton Mine he was the only son of Karl and Sophie Zyma, (both predeceased). He is also predeceased by his 3 sisters, Mary Huff, husband Art predeceased, Jennie Eagen, husband Red predeceased, and Anne Shannon, husband Tom predeceased. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren – Crystal and Raymond Savard of Sudbury, Cassandra Zyma of Sudbury, Amy Zyma- Patterson and Shanna Zyma-Guerrette of Sudbury, Katie Buell-Lucas of Smiths Falls, Shirley Buell of Trenton, Taylor and Morgan Zyma of Walden, Corey, Kaylyn and Tara Jean Satern of West Palm Beach, Florida, Chris Morrow of PEI and Corey Gordon of B.C. and Evan and Emilie Chartrand of Sault Ste. Marie. As well he was blessed with 22 great-grandchildren. He had many precious memories of time spent with numerous nieces and nephews. He worked for INCO, as a machinist for 42 years, spending the majority of his career at Creighton Mine. William was a giving and generous person; he coached many Creighton minor hockey and baseball teams and at times was also the organizer of both. On numerous occasions; he happily played the role of jolly old St. Nick at the Children's annual Christmas party at the Creighton INCO Club. He might not have known all the names of the reindeers by heart; but he knew just about all the names of the little boys and girls of Creighton. He was also a volunteer fireman at Creighton with the Creighton Inco Brigade. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus through St. Michaels Church in Creighton Mine. In 1984 he, his wife and daughter moved to Espanola. While in Espanola, William was involved with the Seniors Citizen group, and was the President of the Senior's Citizen group for nine years. He was an avid gardener and was known for growing garlic. Affectionately known as the “Garlic King“ of Espanola. Friends may call at the BOURCIER FUNERAL HOME, Espanola on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 24th at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Espanola at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gilles Grandmont officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, Donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Services entrusted to Bourcier Funeral Home.
