Body of missing swimmer recovered by police, drowned in Lake Erie

FORT ERIE, Ont. — Police say the body of a swimmer who has been missing in Lake Erie for almost three days has been recovered.

The Niagara Regional Police Service say the body was located around 9:55 a.m. on Sunday along the shoreline of Holloway Bay near Fort Erie, Ont.

Police say the individual is not being identified out of respect for his family.

The swimmer had initially gone missing on Aug. 27, after a total of six people — including two adult men and four children — were caught in high waves.

One of the adults and all four children were able to be rescued, but one of the men disappeared in the water as lifeguards attempted to save him.

Police say the deceased was a man in his thirties from Waterloo, Ont. He is presumed to have drowned.
